Starve your distractions, feed your focus
I saw a quote the other day that said "Starve your distractions, feed your focus" and it really made me think long and hard about it. (Right after I changed it to my lock screen)
What does that mean? Starve your distractions, feed your focus.....
In our world today there are so many distractions. Literally SO.MANY. Right when you go to do your homework, your phone dings. It's your best friend shooting you a quick text that would maybe take 20 seconds to reply to, but before you know it somehow the wind blows you to Instagram and now it's been three hours and none of your work is done. Instagram isn't going anywhere but uh....that homework is due at 11:59 and it's......11:30 now..
And that's just one example- don't get me started on TikTok.
Then if you're like me and you follow lots of motivational accounts, it just makes you feel worse when you know you're slacking...But even if you decide to "Starve your distractions" I.E. take time off social media, etc. etc. How do you "Feed your focus?"
Well I'll tell you how you don't feed your focus.
You don't feed your focus by comparing yourself to everyone else.
You don't feed your focus by entertaining people you know aren't supposed to be in your life.
You don't feed your focus by feeding your mind filth and expecting to get anything else out of life other than filth.
I mean....unless those things are what you want your focus to be..
It blows my mind what us as people do..and I say us to show including me...like especially including me. We say we want a nice house, a great career, friends that celebrate us instead of bringing us down...but yet we don't want to study to get the grades needed to get the degree to be able to afford our "nice house"....and we stick around people that obviously are not around for anything than other than what they can get out of you. Just a thought.
Whatever you do now will determine who you are in ten years..twenty years....thirty years....you get it.
So like...don't be lazy now.
I'm not saying to chase materialistic things to find happiness.. I.E. education, things, etc. But I am saying that you won't have the things you want if you don't put in the work. I am basically talking to myself hoping to inspire you as well.
Think about the man/woman you imagine yourself being one day. Really think long and hard about what that person looks like.
Okay... Now ask yourself would HE/SHE be having the work ethic right now that I am currently having?
Would HE/SHE be watching the things I am watching right now....
Would they be hanging with the people I am right now?
If you answered no to any of those ^^^^^^ then wyd?
Because uh......that person is never going to exist if you don't start acting like them right now.
What would that person read? What would they watch? How would they spend their free time? Who would they be hanging out with out of the people that is in your life right now?
I have one last question.....
If you're not where you wanna be in your life...why are you chilling so much?
Figure out what your focus is or what you want it to be then figure out what your distractions are. Then act accordingly.
It makes me think of a verse. This verse may fit in with the theme of this post and it may not...honestly it's late and my brain is fried. But I like the verse so here it goes...
"So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all to the glory of God." (1 Corinthians 10:31)
Whatever you do.....do it for His glory. His approval...not for your friends, not for your family, but for Him.
I really love the quote, and I think the verse works very well because, as Christians, our focus should be to glorify God. I like your point about reflecting on who you want to be in the future. I think it's a great idea to think about the traits that you want in the future and see what isn't lining up right now (like your work ethic example) to find what to focus on improving in yourself. Great post!!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, I agree with you in that our focus should always be to glorify God. I am so glad that you enjoyed the post!
